President-elect Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he would nominate Dr. Muhammad Oz, the well-known television host and former U.S. Senate candidate. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrative staff.

Trump said last week he would nominate vaccine skeptic and conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to be secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Oz previously hosted the syndicated daytime television show “The Dr. Oz Show” for more than a dozen years. He was the Republican candidate for Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate seat in 2022, but lost to Democratic Sen. John Fetterman.

“America is facing a health care crisis, and there may be no doctor more qualified and capable than Dr. Oz to make America healthy again,” Trump said in a statement on Tuesday.

“He is a distinguished physician, heart surgeon, inventor and world-class communicator who has been at the forefront of healthy living for decades. Dr. Oz will work closely with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to address The disease industrial complex, and all the horrible chronic illnesses that come with it.

“Our broken health care system hurts ordinary Americans and crushes our nation’s budget,” Trump said.

“Dr. Oz will be a leader in inspiring disease prevention, so every dollar we spend on health care in our great nation gets the best outcomes in the world,” Trump said. “He will also reduce the cost of our nation’s most expensive waste and fraud within government agencies that account for one-third of our nation’s health care spending and one-quarter of our entire national budget.”

Oz has double America and turkish citizenshipAs a child of Turkish immigrants. During his Senate campaign, he vowed to renounce his Turkish citizenship if elected.

Trump has been a staunch critic of Obamacare and the Affordable Care Act, which provides subsidized coverage to many people who buy individual health insurance after unsuccessfully trying to get Congress to repeal it during his first year in the White House.
