Amazon There’s a Spring Sale next week with discounts on seasonal items, and this sale isn’t limited to Prime members.
Amazon said Thursday that the event, dubbed the “Spring Sale,” will be held in North America for six days starting on March 20. Unlike the Prime Day discount extravaganza that usually takes place during the summer, next week’s event will be open to shoppers who don’t pay for a Prime membership. In the US, the subscription plan costs $139 per year, or $14.99 per month, and offers free, fast shipping; video streaming; and access to exclusive Prime Day deals.
Amazon said spring fashion, fitness products, outdoor furniture, Amazon-branded equipment and other “warm-weather essentials” will be discounted. This is the first time Amazon has hosted such an event in its first season.
Amazon has added shopping events in recent years, including “Prime Big Deal Days” in the fall, a 48-hour “Pet Day” and beauty sales ahead of the holiday shopping season.
The company is launching its spring campaign as shoppers grapple with high inflation and still crave discounts. In mid-2022, inflation had fallen from a 40-year high but was still above the Fed’s 2% target. The U.S. Department of Labor said on Tuesday that consumer prices rose more than expected in February, with an annual increase of 3.2%.
Amazon also faces growing competition from low-cost retailers Temu and Shein, which have been spending heavily on advertising to attract U.S. shoppers. Shein offers heavily discounted clothing and accessories. Temu is similar to an online flea market and is popular due to its rock-bottom prices and gamified shopping experience.
