The National Hockey League has gained more respect for team values.

According to CNBC’s official 2024 NHL valuation, the average NHL team is worth $1.92 billion, with recent trade revenue multiples of MLB trade revenue.

What is the reason for the rise of the alliance?

Stable revenue growth, coupled with a strict salary cap and a league-wide revenue sharing system, almost ensures the profitability of the league’s 32 teams.

According to league data, NHL hockey-related revenue will be $6.3 billion in the 2023-24 season, an increase of 8.6% from the previous season. The NHL also hit a record $250 million in national sponsorship revenue last season and a record $2.4 billion in regular-season ticket revenue, the NHL said.

That growth, combined with richer media deals, is leading to better profits for professional hockey. According to CNBC calculations, the average EBITDA for NHL teams in the 2023-24 season is $45 million and revenue is $223 million.
