Asia-Pacific markets were mostly higher on Monday as investors awaited this week’s Bank of Korea interest rate decision and India’s third-quarter gross domestic product data.
Singapore will release inflation data for October later in the day. Economists polled by Reuters expected headline inflation to be 1.8%, down from 2% last month.
Other economic data this week include Australia’s October inflation data released on Wednesday, and Japan’s capital Tokyo’s November inflation data on Friday.
Tokyo’s inflation data is widely considered a leading indicator of national trends.
Australian S&P/ASX 200 Index It rose 0.61% intraday, hitting a record high of 8,458.9 points.
Japanese Nikkei 225 Index The Chicago futures contract was at 38,750 points, the Osaka futures contract was at 38,730 points, and the index’s last closing price was 38,283.85 points.
In comparison, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index futures were quoted at 19,204 points, opening weaker than the Hang Seng Index’s closing price of 19,229.97 points.
The U.S. Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at a new high on Friday, capping a week of gains for the stock market.
The Dow Jones index rose 426.16 points to 44,296.51 points, an increase of 0.97%, setting a record closing high and rising for the third consecutive trading day.
The S&P 500 rose 0.35%, rising for a fifth consecutive session, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq rose 0.16%.
Nvidia and Alphabet capped their gains with losses of 3.2% and 1.7% respectively.
