Erline Dennis, 104, has been a teacher for nearly 40 years. Although it has been decades since Denise retired, she still has an impact on her former students. It is reported that many of the children she taught at the time are now senior citizens fox 8.
“Every once in a while, I see someone I haven’t seen in years. I may have forgotten about it, but they haven’t. They remember it very clearly,” Dennis told the channel.
Dennis was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on July 2, 1920, and remains in his hometown. She reportedly lived in High Point and taught there for many years. high point enterprise.
Keeping family, friends, and even those former students in her life is extremely important to Denise, and she is grateful for the reminders her friends have given her to strengthen this skill.
“I think continuing to be as active as possible in the people around you is the key,” she told Fox 8.
Denise’s efforts in making these connections likely contributed to her long and fulfilling life. Maintaining positive relationships, or what longevity researchers call social adaptability, is the number one thing that helps us feel happier and live longer, according to a decades-long Harvard study.
Dennis has a large and active community. It would have been her 100th birthday in 2020, and her friends and family, along with many in the High Point community, organized a drive-by birthday parade in her honor.
Before the parade, a reception was held in Dennis’ honor – attended by the mayor, sheriff, county commissioners and state representatives, WFMY News 2 reported at the time.
As of 2023, Denise remains active in her church, of which she is a founding member, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She is a gold member of the sorority, which means she has been a member for over 50 years.
Denise’s friends described her as a determined woman. “She was always ready to do what she needed to do,” her friend Evelyn Williams told Fox 8.
