The death toll from the worst flooding in decades in southern Thailand and northern Malaysia climbed to at least 12 people on Saturday, authorities said, as rising waters prompted tens of thousands of people to be evacuated over the past three days.

In southern Thailand, flooding has affected nearly 534,000 households, with the death toll rising to nine from the four reported on Friday, and leaving thousands of people living in 200 temporary shelters set up in affected areas, the Ministry of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said .

Channa district in Songkhla province suffered its worst floods in 50 years, with footage showing people being carried onto trucks from their flooded homes.
