Elon Musk said his March 3 meeting with Donald Trump in Florida did not go as planned, and the Republican presidential candidate did not ask Musk to donate to his campaign.

“I was having breakfast at a friend’s house and Donald Trump came over. That was it,” Musk said in an interview with former CNN anchor Don Lemon that aired Monday morning broadcast.

The previously reported meeting initially sparked speculation that Musk, one of the world’s richest men and an outspoken critic of Democratic incumbent Joe Biden, might support or financially support Trump.

Musk told Lemon that the express purpose of his trip to Florida was not to meet with Trump. Instead, when asked if Trump could come over for breakfast, Musk said he was staying at a friend’s house.

“Okay, okay,” Musk said he responded.

Musk did not name the friend or provide some details about his conversation with Trump.

“We could say he did most of the talking,” Musk said of the former president. “Nothing particularly groundbreaking or new,” Musk said. “President Trump likes to talk. So, he talked. I don’t remember him saying anything that he didn’t say publicly. That was it, just a breakfast.”

Musk said Trump did not ask for money or any other form of donation.

“I will not be paying his legal fees in any way, shape or form… nor is he asking me for money,” Musk said.

New York Times No. 1 report Trump met with Musk on March 3 in Palm Beach, along with several wealthy Republican donors. Musk made no mention of anyone else at the breakfast during his interview with Lemon.

The day after the New York Times report was published, Musk announced that he had no plans to donate to Trump or Biden.

“Let me be clear, I will not donate to any candidate for president of the United States,” Musk said. wrote on social media site X, which he also owns.

When Lemon asked him about it, Musk told him, “I’m going to express my opinion. I think it’s important that I don’t want to make the decision on money.”

Musk said he might back a presidential candidate “in the final stages,” but he hasn’t made a final decision yet. He added that he was not leaning toward any particular candidate.

“I’m moving away from Biden,” Musk said with a laugh.

Lemon later said that just hours after the March 8 interview was taped, Musk canceled his agreement with Lemon to host the show on X.
