According to the agency, one in four U.S. households has a member who suffers from migraines. American Migraine Foundation.

“I get asked about migraine diets all the time, (and) there’s no real migraine diet” that can prevent symptoms, said Dr. Fred Cohenheadache specialists and Assistant Professor of Medicine and Neurology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

But Cohen added that “certain foods can trigger (migraines)” and make symptoms worse.

Here are some foods that migraineurs (people who suffer from migraines regularly) report triggering migraine attacks.

“There’s no specific” food that triggers migraines in everyone who experiences them, but Cohen always tells his patients to “watch[their]diet.”

He advises his patients to keep a headache diary to track when migraines occur and identify possible triggers.

“That’s how we find out what triggers it,” Cohen said.

Sometimes diet isn’t the cause. “For myself, (it’s) flying in an airplane,” Cohen noted.

“That’s why a headache diary is so important for looking for triggers and behaviors that lead to migraine attacks.”
