Donald Trump on Tuesday began promoting a line of expensive Bibles with country music star Lee Greenwood, whose song “God Bless America” has become ubiquitous at the former president’s political rallies.
“All Americans need a Bible in their home, and I have many,” Trump said in a statement. video Announce this business deal on Truth Social.
“It’s my favorite book. It’s a lot of people’s favorite book,” he added.
“Religion and Christianity are the things that are most lacking in this country, and I firmly believe we need to get them back,” he said. “This is one of the biggest problems we face and that’s why our country is in chaos and we’ve lost religion in our country.”
The omnipresent Christian scripture is the best in the world –Sell books, and churches are often more than happy to distribute them for free. The Bible can also be read for free on a variety of websites and apps, not to mention hotel rooms and other places.
The “God Bless America Bible” sells for $59.99, not including shipping and other charges.
For that money, buyers get a host of extra features not typically included in regular Bibles.
The Trump-Greenwood Bible is a King James translation and contains a “handwritten chorus” copy of Greenwood’s hit song of the same name, according to the website.
It also includes the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence and the Pledge of Allegiance, the website said.
The website claims it is “the only Bible” endorsed by Trump or Greenwood. And, it adds, it’s “the only Bible inspired by America’s most recognized patriotic anthem, ‘God Bless America.'”
The text is also printed in large font, with Jesus’ words highlighted in red, according to the website.
It’s unclear how much money Trump and Greenwood made from the promotion.
The partnership comes at a particularly turbulent time for Trump’s finances.
The presumptive Republican nominee’s net worth recently surged by billions after a successful merger allowed his media company to trade publicly on Nasdaq.
But he was unable to cash in on his stake in the company for months. Meanwhile, he has just days to post a $175 million appeal bond to prevent the state from enforcing a $454 million civil fraud judgment against him.
Trump is also fighting other major civil verdicts, including a federal jury award requiring him to pay $83.3 million for defaming author E. Jean Carroll after she accused the former president of raping her years ago.
Meanwhile, Trump’s political fundraising efforts lag far behind the campaign of his rival, Democratic incumbent Joe Biden. Trump said on Monday he would “probably” use his own money to run for the White House.
The website, which sells Trump-supported Bibles, made clear that none of its proceeds will go to Trump’s campaign.
The website said it had “nothing to do with politics or any political movement.”
“GodBlessTheUSABible.com is not owned, managed or controlled by Donald J. Trump, the Trump Organization, CIC Ventures LLC, or their respective principals or affiliates.”
Instead, it said it had received permission from CIC Ventures to use Trump’s name, likeness and image.
