His TV show ran for two seasons before ending abruptly in October.
“I have to tell you, I wanted to get you on the podcast, but Apple asked us not to do that and put you on the podcast,” Stewart told Khan on “The Daily Show” on Monday. “They literally said, ‘Please don’t talk to her.'”
Stewart asked Khan why companies might be “afraid” of having certain conversations publicly. Khan said this “shows one of the dangers that happens when you concentrate so much power and so many decisions in just a few companies.”
Stewart’s comments came nearly two weeks after the U.S. Department of Justice sued Apple in a landmark antitrust case. The U.S. Department of Justice accuses Apple of monopolizing the iPhone ecosystem and that its anti-competitive behavior extends to Apple Watch, advertising, browsers, FaceTime and news businesses.
The Federal Trade Commission under Khan has taken similar actions against other major tech companies. The Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission have filed lawsuits against Google parent company Alphabet. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has sued Amazon and Meta.
In February, Stewart returned as host of “The Daily Show,” but only on Mondays.
The comedian reportedly had disagreements with Apple executives over the way he treated guests and topics on the show, including artificial intelligence and China. New York Times.
