Vinay Surana, regional managing director for Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa at insurance giant Allianz Partners, said growing up in multiple states and cities taught him to embrace different perspectives.
This appreciation of different cultures and faiths has come in handy throughout his career, which has seen him work on three continents and six countries.
“It’s the foundation of appreciating diversity of perspectives and including different people from different backgrounds on teams that has allowed me to be successful,” he told CNBC’s My Biggest Lessons.
He believes diversity, equity and inclusion are key factors in attracting and retaining talent and increasing employee engagement.
“(It) helps create a healthy workplace where everyone feels comfortable with who they are and is willing to bring their authentic selves to the workplace. It helps reduce unconscious bias and helps drive Innovation,” he said.
