Engine hood falls off plane Southwest Airlines boeing company The Federal Aviation Administration said Sunday that the Boeing 737-800 struck a flap while taking off from Denver International Airport.
The FAA said Southwest Airlines Flight 3695 was en route to Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport and returned safely to its gate in Denver at 8:15 a.m. local time. Southwest Airlines said passengers on the flight were transferred to another plane and were expected to arrive at their destination three hours late.
“Our maintenance team is inspecting the aircraft,” Southwest said. The FAA said it was investigating the incident. Southwest did not immediately respond when asked when the aircraft and engines last underwent maintenance.
In response to a request for comment, Boeing referred to Southwest’s statement.

The plane was an older model of a Boeing 737, older than the Max jet. In January, a near-disaster occurred when a door jam blew off a nearly new Alaska Airlines 737 Max 9 aircraft at 16,000 feet, putting Boeing under intense regulatory scrutiny.
