New poll shows more voters trust Donald Trump over President Joe Biden when it comes to tackling inflation and cost of living, their top concerns about the United States NBC News Poll.

The poll of 1,000 registered voters nationwide found that 52% of respondents said Trump would do a better job dealing with inflation and the cost of living, while 30% said the same about Biden.

The survey, conducted from April 12 to 16, was followed days later by another higher-than-expected inflation report, which showed a gradual recovery in consumer prices. After the data was released, Trump immediately attacked Biden’s economic policies.

As consumer prices heat up again, the Biden administration is staying put on inflation and turning more attention to other aspects of the economy: jobs, tariffs and taxes.

Biden clearly demonstrated his high concern for these issues when he toured the key battleground state of Pennsylvania last week.

Biden added to his growing economic hawkishness toward China when he announced in a speech in Pittsburgh on Wednesday that he would support triple tariffs on Chinese steel and aluminum imports.

A day earlier, in Scranton, Pa., Biden focused on tax laws and jobs: “Only two presidents in American history have left office with fewer jobs than when they took office: Herbert Hoover and, yes, Donald’s Herbert Hoover ‘Trump.

The speeches come after Biden for months blasted the argument that businesses are responsible for stubbornly high prices and stubborn inflation, accusing them of price gouging and “deflationary inflation,” which involves selling less for the same price. Quantity of goods practices.

However, as consumer prices fluctuate, Biden’s recent comments indicate that he is working to bring other economic issues and data to the minds of voters.

For example, while Trump lambasted Biden’s economy, the president doubled down on his claim that the United States “has the best economy in the world.” In fact, the United States does lead developed economies in important indicators such as gross domestic product and unemployment rate.

But voters are less easily distracted from feelings about inflation and the cost of living.

Only 11% of respondents cited “jobs and the economy” as the most critical issue facing the country ahead of the November election. Meanwhile, 23% of respondents, the largest share, said inflation and cost of living were their top concerns — two issues most said Trump would do a better job of handling.

Overall, the NBC poll found that Biden appears to be catching up to Trump’s lead, echoing a similar result. The New York Times/Siena College The poll was conducted earlier this month. NBC’s survey found Trump leads Biden by two points in the head-to-head matchup, down from a five-point lead in January. The poll’s margin of error is +/- 3.10%.

But voters’ fond memories of Trump’s economy have been a thread in early polls and continue to weigh on Biden’s momentum. Despite Biden’s efforts to refocus the conversation on other economic issues, inflation appears to remain an inevitable obstacle to winning public trust.
