Chinese smartphone maker Honor on Wednesday became one of the first device makers to say it will bring Google artificial intelligence capabilities to its upcoming devices.
Honor will integrate generative AI experiences into upcoming hardware, which will be powered by Google Cloud, the company said.
A spokesperson for the Chinese company told CNBC that this will include Gemini, Google’s artificial intelligence assistant, and Imagen 2, a text-to-image generation tool.
Smartphone manufacturers are trying to introduce artificial intelligence features into their phones to entice users to upgrade to the latest flagship devices.
The integration with Google’s artificial intelligence capabilities builds on Honor’s already running the US company’s Android operating system on its smartphones. Designing advanced generative AI capabilities can be difficult for individual smartphone manufacturers, so partnering with Google gives them quick access to the latest generative AI applications that use the technology.
Honor is one of the few companies committed to using Google’s artificial intelligence tools. In January, Samsung announced a partnership with Google Cloud to bring Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 to its devices.
Honor has been talking about artificial intelligence features in its devices this year. In February, the company launched the Magic 6 Pro, which features features powered by the company’s own artificial intelligence that allows users to open apps simply by looking at their phone. Users can stare at a notification that pops up at the top of the screen, prompting the eye-tracking technology to open the relevant app.
