Now that his criminal trial in New York has ended with a guilty verdict, former President Donald Trump is moving full steam ahead with a series of fundraisers that could raise millions of dollars for his presidential campaign.
Donations started coming in soon after the guilty verdict. A Trump campaign aide said late Thursday that it was unclear how much money the campaign raised from small donors that day. But it was enough that the campaign’s donation website crashed intermittently.
While Trump’s small-dollar donors mobilize in new campaign ads calling the former president a “political prisoner,” the candidate himself is poised to raise big money from wealthy Republicans.
Trump no longer has to appear in court every day as he has for much of the past two months. The change gives him the freedom to travel to Republican strongholds like Texas and deep-blue states like California for fundraisers.
Longtime venture capitalists David Sacks and Chamath Palihapitiya are scheduled to host a fundraiser for the former president in San Francisco on June 6, according to invitations reviewed by CNBC. Tickets for the event start at $50,000 per person and go up to $300,000. Couples can enter for just $500,000.
According to a person familiar with the matter, Trump may also hold a reception in the Hamptons, a luxurious Long Island enclave, after the Republican nominating convention in mid-July.
The Hamptons gala will have at least six co-hosts, but the campaign has not yet determined an exact date or who will host it, this person said.
Trump’s sentencing in the criminal case is scheduled for July 11 in New York City.
The former president also privately said he wanted to host a fundraiser and assembly According to people familiar with the matter, it will be held this summer, preferably in July, at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan.
Trump’s team and his allies have been discussing the need for extensive security measures to ensure his safety at public venues that can accommodate about 19,000 people, one of the people explained.
