The term “foldable device” refers to smartphones with bendable displays. There are currently two styles on the market – smartphones that fold like a book, and smartphones that fold vertically like old-school flip phones but without a visible hinge.
Honor has launched a book-style foldable phone in the market called Magic V2. The Magic V Flip is its first vertically foldable phone.
CNBC first reported in February that Honor would launch a flip phone this year.
Having both types of foldable smartphones gives Honor a stronger foothold in the market. The global foldable market grew 49% year-on-year In the first quarter of 2024, it will grow faster than the overall smartphone market.
The Magic V Flip will compete with similar devices from the likes of Oppo, Vivo, and Samsung.
Honor has heavily promoted artificial intelligence features on its phones, which have become a big talking point for device makers as they look to differentiate their phones from rivals.
The Chinese company said it has a feature called “Honor AI Portrait Engine” that can improve the image quality of photos with blurred backgrounds.
While the Magic V Flip was only launched in China, Honor often brings many of its devices to international markets.
