apple announced on Thursday that its self-service repair program is now available in Europe.
The program, called “Apple Diagnostics for Self Service Repair,” allows consumers to test products for optimal part functionality and identify parts that may need repair without the assistance of Apple or an independent repair provider.
According to the press release, the tool was first launched in the United States in December 2023 and currently supports 42 Apple products and is available in 32 European countries including the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. The program will now support iPhone, Mac and Studio Display models in 33 countries and 24 languages. Apple said it also plans to expand the service to Canada in 2025.
Apple debuted a self-service program in 2022 that provides customers with manuals, legal Apple parts and Apple-used tools so they can repair their devices. The scheme was launched in response to pressure from “right to repair” advocates who argued that consumers should not be locked into a select group of authorized repair shops. In February, the company expanded the program to include Mac models powered by the latest M3 chips.
The company says the do-it-yourself repair tools are part of an ongoing effort to extend the life of its products.
“While Apple is committed to providing safe and affordable repair options, designing and building durable products remains a top priority,” Apple said in a statement. “The best repair for customers and the planet is one that never needs to be done. repair.”
According to the press release, customers can start an Apple Diagnostic session on the second product to check the status and performance of the device that may need repair. After following a series of on-screen prompts, they will learn if their product needs repair and which parts may need to be replaced.
