The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a last-ditch effort by former top Trump White House aide Steve Bannon to avoid jail time next week for ignoring an investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Subpoenas issued by House committees.
Bannon, 70, must begin his four-month prison sentence on Monday.
The high court made the decision in a one-sentence order, which simply stated that Bannon’s “application made to the Chief Justice and referred by him to the court for release pending appeal was refused”.
The former top adviser to then-President Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court on June 21 to suspend his prison surrender date pending his appeal of the verdict.
Bannon’s attorneys did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on the court order Friday afternoon.
