Just outside London lies an English county filled with city amenities and a laid-back country atmosphere.
Located on the North Sea coast in southeast England, Essex is the lifelong home of Queenie Porter, managing director of sports drinks company Wow Hydrate.
The company, which works with well-known sports brands including Manchester United and Tyson Fury, is also based in the county.
“You have the best of everything,” Porter said on an episode of CNBC’s new travel series London Downtime. “You can go to a city like Chelmsford, or you can go to a low-key town like Brentwood, or you can go to a rural area.”
When Porter is not busy running a business while juggling multiple board positions, she enjoys spending her free time in Essex.
She revealed her four favorite spots, which include:
- Essex Fight Academy, a practical boxing gym where you can train with boxing professionals
- The Dog & Pickle is an independently owned gastropub whose roast dinner is so popular you may have to queue to try it
- The Ginger Tree, a cozy florist where you can hand-pick gorgeous bouquets bigger than your head
- Muse Medispa, a luxurious spa where you can try their signature facials and enjoy a relaxing head massage
