Detroit- General Motors Cadillac on Friday unveiled a new all-electric concept car designed to preview how the automaker plans to keep its high-performance V-Series vehicles relevant with electric vehicles.
The vehicle is called “Opulent Velocity.” Cadillac, as its name suggests, means the V-Series is a balance of ultra-luxury and performance, and the series is known for cars with high-performance engines, such as the 6.2-liter V8 Blackwing, rated at more than 600 horsepower and pound-feet of torque.
“What we really wanted to do was achieve the best of both worlds. The ultimate ultra-performance machine of the future, plus ultimate luxury,” said Bryan Nesbitt, Cadillac’s global executive design director, during a media briefing.

Electric vehicles can deliver solid performance when it comes to acceleration, such as 0-60 mph in three seconds or less, but automakers are still faced with how to differentiate their vehicles and create performance with the sound, or “roar,” of traditional Vehicle Characteristics.
Nesbitt and other Cadillac officials stressed that there’s more to electric vehicle performance than just 0-60 mph times. They say it has to do with handling as well as vehicle technology, including interior features like biometrics and driver-assistance technology like GM’s Super Cruise.
“The purpose of all of this is to continue to enhance the brand,” Nesbitt said.
Cadillac has released some details about the concept car, which automakers often use to gauge customer interest or showcase the future direction of a vehicle or brand. These vehicles are not intended for sale to consumers.
