Renowned Swiss watchmaker Patek Philippe this week announced the launch of its first new collection in 25 years, called the Cubitus collection.
The launch of the new series comes at a time when luxury watch prices have largely stabilized, driven by strong demand. Young investors and collectors are buying luxury watches during the Covid-19 pandemic, but second-hand prices have risen recent decline.
Patek Philippe’s new collection consists of three different models – two in steel and one in platinum – designed to “provide a new interpretation of the ‘elegant sporty’ style”. According to the press release. There are two steel versions, one in rose gold dual-tone for a more retro feel, and the other in solid steel that reflects the collection’s sporty inspiration and features a colorful finish.
The third model features a platinum case and a different surface design, including a large-format date and a dial that tracks the moon phase and day of the week.
Patek Philippe says it has incorporated new technologies into its watches, from an ultra-thin self-winding mini-rotor to an instantaneous mechanism that ensures different displays match within 18 milliseconds. The brand said it has submitted six patent applications for the new technology.
Patek Philippe’s new collection also includes new cufflinks designed to match the watch with a white gold frame that echoes the shape of the case.
Founded in 1839, Patek Philippe is often called the “Trinity” of the watchmaking industry, along with Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin.
The brand’s last new collection before the Cubitus series was in 1999, when the Twenty~4 design was released. According to Patek Philippe’s website, the collection is “designed specifically for young, active, modern women.”
