President-elect Donald Trump Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., has been selected as his national security consultants, according to four sources familiar with the decision.

Walz is a Green Beret veteran who served in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Africa. Since 2019, he has represented a congressional district in the House of Representatives as a member of the Armed Services, Foreign Affairs and Intelligence Committees.

Walz’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Walz is a particularly tough member of Congress on China. He is a member of the House China Task Force and believes the United States is ill-prepared if a conflict breaks out in the region.

Like many congressional Republicans, Walz has criticized U.S. aid for Ukraine in its war against Russia. In an interview on November 4 NPRHe said the United States has “chips” to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table and negotiate a “diplomatic solution” to end the war.
