Microsoft and Amazon Billions of dollars are being poured into France.
Microsoft said in a statement on Monday that it had committed 4 billion euros ($4.3 billion) to expand its cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure in France, in addition to funding artificial intelligence skills and supporting the French technology industry.
The company said it plans to invest up to 25,000 state-of-the-art GPUs (graphics processing units) in France by the end of 2025.
The news was announced during the “Choose France” summit, which is dedicated to encouraging foreign investment in France.
“This significant investment demonstrates a strong commitment to supporting digital innovation and economic growth in France,” Microsoft President Brad Smith said in a statement on Monday.
“We are building state-of-the-art cloud and AI infrastructure, training people with AI skills, and supporting French startups to grow with confidence using our technology in a fair and responsible way.”
As part of the investment, Microsoft will also open a new data center in Mulhouse, France.
At the same time, Amazon itself has committed to investing 1.2 billion euros in France.
