United Airlines said the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has given it approval to add new planes and routes, months after the regulator stepped up scrutiny of the airline after several safety incidents.

“Today, we got some good news: After careful review and discussion of the proactive safety measures United has taken to date, our FAA Certificate Management Office has given us permission to begin restarting our certification activities, including for new aircraft. and routes, we will continue to coordinate closely with the FAA,” United said in a note to employees on Wednesday.

United said in March that the FAA had stepped up scrutiny of the airline after a series of incidents earlier this year. This prevents the airline from launching new routes ahead of the busy summer travel season, including flights to Faro, Portugal.

The FAA’s approval is good news as United and other airlines expect a record peak season this year.

In one of the safety incidents in recent months, a United Airlines Boeing 777 bound for Japan Lost a tire A missing panel was discovered on a Boeing 737 that landed in Oregon in March, shortly after taking off from San Francisco in February.

However, United say there is more work to be done.

“We will continue to see FAA involvement in our operations as we review our work processes, manuals and facilities,” the company said in a staff memo.
