U.S. Food and Drug Administration declare On Thursday, the company lifted its ban on Juul e-cigarettes while it reviews the new court ruling and considers the latest information from e-cigarette manufacturers.
The FDA first blocked the company from selling its products in 2022, but they have been sitting on shelves awaiting appeal. During this time, Juul has maintained its position as the second-largest e-cigarette maker in the United States.
Now, the FDA says Juul’s products are back under agency review, although it stresses that this new status doesn’t mean they will be fully approved.
The company said federal regulations prohibit it from disclosing any more information.
Juul said in a statement that it appreciated the FDA’s decision, adding that it now looks forward to “reengaging with the agency on a science- and evidence-based process to seek marketing authorization for its products.”
“We remain confident in the quality and substance of our applications and believe that a comprehensive review of the science and evidence will demonstrate that our products meet statutory standards appropriate to protect public health,” the company said.
While Juul is appealing a 2022 marketing ban, the FDA’s preliminary ruling severely disrupted the company’s finances, prompting a bailout from two of its largest investors. The Wall Street Journal reported.
Juul also continues to face lawsuits from consumers who say its products harm their health. The company denies the accusations.
To date, the FDA has only officially approved the sale to consumers of 23 e-cigarette products produced by three companies.
