Market will be in 'no man's land' for some time, says BD8's Barbara Doran

Stock futures fell late Wednesday as Wall Street sought stability after some wild swings in recent days.

Joseph Ferrara, investment strategist at Gateway Investment Advisers, said the recent market volatility could be a preview of the rest of the year. Ferrara told CNBC on Wednesday that economic concerns, geopolitical conflicts and the upcoming November elections could make investors nervous in the coming months.

One of the reasons for Monday’s sharp market sell-off was Friday’s jobs report, which showed slowing job growth. As a result, traders may be watching Thursday’s weekly jobless claims more closely for potential increases in layoffs.

“I think investors are still trying to understand the state of the U.S. economy and the financial health of companies,” Ferrara said. “I think consumers are going to be the focus of a lot of headlines between now and the end of the year.”

Corporate earnings are also likely to be a major factor in Thursday’s market moves. Warner Bros. Discovery and Bumble Both companies saw a decline in extended trading after reporting weak second-quarter revenue results.

Companies scheduled to report earnings Thursday morning include Eli Lilly and Company and Under Armor.
